Minecraft How To Make A Chest With The Required Materials

Managing inventory is one of the most critical aspects of surviving and progressing in Minecraft. As players gather blocks, ores, and rare items, having a reliable place to store resources becomes an immediate priority. Crafting a chest provides an accessible storage solution that keeps items safe and organized throughout any survival journey.

Gathering the Basic Wood Resources

To begin crafting a chest, players must first collect wood from any tree species found in the overworld. Oak, birch, spruce, jungle, acacia, and dark oak logs all serve as suitable starting materials. Gathering just two logs is enough to create the required planks for a single chest structure.

Once logs are collected, open the personal inventory grid to convert the raw logs into wooden planks. Every single log yields four planks, giving players plenty of material to work with. Different wood types can be used, but all eight planks must be gathered before building the chest.

Setting Up the Crafting Table Grid

A standard crafting table is required to assemble the chest because the personal crafting space is too small. If a crafting table is not available, place four wooden planks into the personal grid to build one immediately. Position the crafting table in a safe spot to access the full three-by-three crafting area.

Open the crafting table menu to view nine empty grid slots ready for item placement. Laying out materials correctly inside this interface ensures the recipe successfully generates a usable chest. Proper placement is essential for transforming individual planks into a complete storage unit.

Placing Planks for the Chest Recipe

To assemble the chest, place eight wooden planks along the outer perimeter of the three-by-three crafting grid. Leave the center slot completely empty while filling all eight surrounding boxes. A fully assembled chest icon will instantly appear in the crafting result box on the right.

Drag the newly crafted chest into the active inventory bar to prepare it for placement in the world. Players can repeat this process as necessary whenever additional storage space is required around their base. The simple recipe makes it easy to scale up storage systems early in the game.

Expanding Storage with Double Chests

Single chests provide twenty-seven individual inventory slots for storing items, blocks, and tools. Placing two single chests directly side-by-side automatically combines them into one large double chest. This expansion doubles the total capacity to fifty-four slots, making item organization significantly easier.

Double chests are ideal for high-traffic areas such as mining hubs, main bases, and automatic sorting setups. Players can also label their chests using item frames or signs to quickly identify stored goods. Maintaining an organized chest room prevents clutter and saves valuable time during long gameplay sessions.
